The Nearness of You

It's not the pale moon that excites me
That thrills and delights me
Oh no, it's just the nearness of you
It isn't your sweet conversation
That brings this sensation
Oh no, it's just the nearness of you
When you're in my arms
And I feel you so close to me
All my wildest dreams came true
I need no soft lights to enchant me
If you will only grant me
The right to hold you ever so tight
And to feel in the night
The nearness of you

It was as if the stars were aligned, these two unsuspecting souls enrolled at the same time in an MBA course in Melbourne five years ago. Both were looking to change the course of their career. Little did they know, an innocent invite to an old Italian gelato bar would flourish into a five year journey which brought them together in a Holy matrimony.

It was his caring personality, his musical talent and his impeccably neat apartment that charmed her in the beginning. For him it was her bubbly personality, love of food and alluring beauty that she never realised she nor admit she has that drew him closer to her each day. Together they created their own little bubble where each feels safe, comfortable and at home wherever they are.

There was always an unspoken certainty about their willingness to take their relationship to the next level. However being who they are, they wanted to have their career life figured out before making the commitment. Years went by and as unfortunate as it was, it took a series of devastating events to make them realise that life is too short to wait around.

It was upon her very ill mother’s bedside and as an attempt to lift her spirits that they promised to tie the knot the year after. But it seemed God had another plan for them and took her mother away soon after their announcement. She would never forget the way he hugged and comforted her that night at the airport when her family broke the news. She knew then he was all she needed, her steady rock, her protector, her “Mr. Right”.

His feelings for her never wavered even at the most difficult of times. For both of them there was no longer any reason to wait. They embarked on a year-long journey to plan their big day. To their surprise almost everything went very smoothly, they managed to book their dream photography studio (Hint: it starts with an “A” and ends with “xioo”), met the most helpful, well connected and enthusiastic wedding planners on the planet, found a dreamy reception venue, artistic decorators and got introduced to a brilliant chef whom they swore to be Gordon Ramsay’s doppelganger.

One year was more than enough for both of them to meticulously plan their wedding day. From the horse-hair lined classic tuxedo for the groom, the bride’s “kinda lucked it on her first shop” wedding gown, the pre-wedding dresses inspired by their talented photographer, the “late night online shopping” bridal shoes, the greenery wedding concept, the hair and make-up, to the smallest details on the invites and the velvet heirloom ring box.

The result was nothing less than perfection. The couple’s wedding had a lavish yet relaxed atmosphere, where their guests and family members can enjoy the famous Balinese sunset while being perched on a cliff atop the majestic Indian Ocean, pampered by petit canapes and free-flow cocktails and enchanted by the Island’s most talented musicians. They laughed, danced and sang (almost) all night. For a fleeting moment it was as if everyone were encapsulated within the couple’s warm and magical bubble, as one big family.

Love,

Debora.
