"It felt like turning off the traction control while driving a sport car. On an icy road."

My dad sells fertiliser. Therefore he’s happy like a clam and dances along the frogs when it rains.

I sell happy pictures of a tropical island. Therefore I am bored like the last clam on a serving plate, when it comes to rainy season.

People’s lack of interest in outdoor wedding when tropical storm keeps on blowing away canopies had allowed me to spend more time solving life mysteries and fixing broken mechanics at home.

But it turned out that thinking was only increasing my boredom, and there were no more mechanic left to be disassembled at home. So I bribed my daughter with a chocolate bar in trade for her cute smile. But as soon as she saw my camera pointing at her, she ran away saying, “Not again, Daddy.”

My wife was no use either. Since she stumbled upon that hippie website, she kept shoving eccentric herbal drinks down my throat every time I walked pass her.

I kept checking my fridge, hoping for a microwavable food to magically show up, and after the 83.632th times of disappointment, I decided to reconnect with my artistic friends, and shouted a call for collaborations. A fashion designer showed up. A calligraphy artist showed up. A wedding decorator showed up. A jewellery designer showed up. A sexy model showed up. A sexy model who was willing to do a bourdoir shot. Oooooh.

Things were very interesting because these are non-billable projects. It means I can forget all the rules of money shot. I can ignore market preferences and trash any guidelines. No one would worry if I shoot the entire session on film with no digital backup whatsoever. No one would file complaints if all of my photos turn out to be dark, choppy, dull, abstract, and blurry.

It felt like turning off the traction control while driving a sport car. On an icy road. It went wild and, predictably, crashed into a wall. There would be several broken ribs, but you'd walk out the hospital as a wiser man.

In my case, the broken ribs equivalents to my bank account which I've tormented with films purchases and scans charges for the sake of pure fun. It felt really good. It felt really good because it made me feel like I've knocked down the walls of my own satisfaction and a new horizon of imagination is revealed.

Wild and non-billable moments went by as the sun had made the beach sparkles again. I'm back in business, fresh and new, and bored no more. Ladies and gentlemen, please enjoy below the wedding of Taylor and Sasha. A jolly celebration I documented during the sunny season last year. The time of year when my dad is bored and kept asking me to pay him a visit.

Cheers,

Adi.
