Karang Boma

Karang Boma is a symbol of Bhuta Kala’s head, which means time and space. Carved above the Balinese gates, so everytime we look at it, we realize that we are temporary beings, limited by time and space. Thus it is important to keep on doing good deeds while our time last.

 

Karang Boma comes from the story of Bomantaka, who was born from to the marriage of the mighty Wisnu (the god of rain) and the beautiful Dewi Pertiwi (the goddess of earth.) In the other words, the marriage between water and earth which is then creating life.

 

Karang Boma is believed to be the guardian who protects the sanctity of the place from negative or bad influences.
