Shooting For The Superstar
Dimar & Adel saying yes
"I can't really see my face in these pictures. They're not that clear. That's exactly how I like it."

Dimar has already been a charmer ever since he was 5 years old. How do I know that? Because our mothers took us to the same nursery school, elementary school, and junior high school. Basically, we spent our childhood and early teen years together. Two homeboys from a humble town of the exquisite Empal Gentong and Nasi Jamblang.

As far as I can remember, Dimar was every school girl's crush, or at least secret crush. How can he not. That charmer boy was also the hot sweaty boy in basketball team, the adorable boy in marching band team, and the cool boy in the rock band. In our school, he was as popular as Tamagochi, and girls would blush as he walked in slow motion towards them.

Then came a day when a boy had to leave home to become a man. Dimar set his sail and off to explore the world pursuing his dream. While me, well, I wasn't quite sure if I had any dreams yet that time so let's just say we embarked to different directions.

Years went by and finally our exuberant soul-searching journey has ended. Dimar and I were both back home, only to find that we have landed on the same career industry: wedding documentation. We started pointing fingers on each others when asked who we would hire to capture each other's wedding, which then it was decided he got to shoot mine first. Dimar and his team nailed our wedding video so beautifully that many of my family and friends would never have enough of watching it over and over, even if it was months after our wedding day.

Not long after that, he met Adel, a girl whose smile is as sweet as Arum Manis, and my daughter was almost two when Dimar and Adel crowned me with the honour of documenting their pre wedding session and wedding day.

Shooting for the superstar? I was nervous. But then Dimar comforted me with magic words, "We'll do whatever you tell us to do." I reacted the same way as my daughter would react if her mom allows her to step on the paint. I added some weird groove to the dance, and when I showed Dimar the results, he said, "I can't really see my face in these pictures. They're not that clear. That's exactly how I like it."

Jackpot. Mom nods to the colourful mess on the floor.

It stimulated more crazy ideas to pop up. I told them I want to shoot their wedding with film. They didn't mind. So that was what I did. I told them to ignore their wedding rundown that stated we supposed to have a photosession inside the luxurious hotel we were staying at, and instead I dragged them and the entire bridal party to a dirty, rustic harbour where the sea smells funny. Still, they were all laughing, shining bright, and having fun there. This was awesome, but I'll save the detailed story about their wedding day for my later blog entry.

For now, I present to you their prewedding series. Where Adel looks effortlessly cute and lovely being herself, and Dimar's face is not really clear. But that's how he likes it.

Cheers,

Adi.
